About Dr. Mayfield

Dr. Mayfield is a career naval officer, Mustang, who served 27 years on active duty, achieving the rank of submarine Commander. He served on five nuclear submarines, Naval Nuclear Power School Academics Director and instructed Nuclear Engineering for Naval Reactors.

Upon retiring from the Navy, he was a combined cycle, 950MW, plant manager for Tenaska in Virginia (15 years). His team received the "Decade of Excellence" award from the Combined Cycle Journal and "one of the best natural gas-fired power plants in the world" from Power Magazine. His team is recognized as one of the model OSHA VPP Star sites In Virginia since 2009. 

Dr. Mayfield received the 2018 Individual Achievement Award from the Combined Cycle Journal.

Dr. Mayfield was an associate professor at University of Phoenix, Stratford University and National Graduate School of Quality.

Extensively published author - Actionable Intelligence (2010) and Knowledge Management in the Digital Age (2017). These 2 books discuss solutions to the aging workforce and sharing knowledge.

He authored numerous publications in areas of Knowledge Management, Succession Planning, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, Career and Technical Education, Workforce and Economic Development. 

He was appointed by the Virginia Board of Education as Chairman on the CTE Advisory Committee, Vice-chairman on Virginia Career Education Foundation (VCEF), and Chairman on the VCEF Executive Council; Executive Board on the Piedmont Virginia Community College for Workforce Development, and Henrico County Business Council for Workforce Development. 

Dr. Mayfield received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Auburn University, MBA from Florida Institute of Technology; 

Doctorate in Business from University of Phoenix. 

A graduate of the University of Virginia Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership, Virginia Commonwealth University Minority Institute for Political Leadership, and a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
